This third film in Pawel Pawilkowski’s historical trilogy – after Ida and Cold War – won him Best Director at Cannes.

In 1949, Nobel laureate Thomas Mann ( Death in Venice , The Magic Mountain ), having fled the Nazis 17 years earlier, returned to his homeland to receive the Goethe Prize. Fatherland is reimagines Mann’s ten-day sojourn in a divided, post-war Germany.

Free parking in the lots with "Cinematheque" signs on E 117th Street (accessible only from Euclid).

AFTER THE MOVIE: EATS/DISCUSSION at L’Albatros, 11401 Bellflower Road, a ten minute walk from the Cinematheque. On exiting the Cleveland Institute of Art, walk north on 116th Street to Euclid. Cross Euclid, walk a few steps to the left and then turn right to continue northward on 115th Street. At the corner of Bellflower there’s a stop sign. Take a sharp left onto Bellflower.
